Garden Maintenance
Is your garden looking a little tired? Don't have the time or confidence to tackle trimming and pruning? I am now offering a soft gardening service, where for $50/hour I will come and get your existing garden looking great! This service includes weeding, shrub pruning and trimming of low/medium hedges, as well as topiary pruning. I'm happy to do one-offs, or come and visit regularly to help you keep on top of things. This option is ideal for rental and commercial properties, or for those of you who are just not gardeners but want people to think you are...
Tomes Road, St Albans
This very formal garden was supposed to be 'low maintenance' when the plan was done, but unfortunately the clients didn't realise just how much work it would be to keep it up to scratch. They called me back in 2023, and were my first gardening clients. Two years later, I still enjoy visiting at least once per month in spring/summer to ensure everything looks nice all year around for them...
The Entrance

The clients were unsure what to do with this familiar planting of Star Jasmine and Magnolias...
But with a bit of trimming, it all becomes clear... The star jasmine is kept under control with the hedge clippers, and the magnolias are trimmed to the same height and fed regularly to keep them healthy. I also limbed them up a little to define their outline.
The 'Bane of my life...'

Yes, these dianellas were the bane of my client's existence, constantly growing out onto the path. She wanted to take them out, but I figured with a bit of training, we could push them back by cutting at the base regularly. They have lovely blue flowers, so we're giving them a chance.... The camellias were originally standards, but had lost their shape, and the Pittosporum 'Golf balls' were leggy and hard to reach for trimming into their ball-shape.

You can see now (two years later) the camellias are gaining their shape back and the pittosporums are being converted to a low hedge. The dianellas are still under control (phew!). This area is quite the feature when those dianellas are in flower... I'm also working on the leptinella inbetween the pavers, to cut down on awkward weeding...
The 'Forgotten' area...

This is an area which had just become too hard for the clients to keep under control. Nice white hydrangeas further along the fenceline, with espaliered camellias. Lots of weeds on the ground though...

Two years later, we're covering the ground with Ajuga, which is thriving in the shade. I can walk on it to get to the hydrangeas, and it still bounces back, plus keeps the weeds down a treat...
The Formal look - definitely NOT low maintenance, but stunning...
